Unleashed & Rehab Recapped

What an amazing week that we have experienced. Last Thursday, we were so lucky to be in the group of 25 or so OneLifers to travel to Anderson, SC to learn some unbelievable lessons about ministry, life, and our walk from NewSpring’s staff and Sr. Pastor Perry Noble. If you don’t know Perry Noble or the the team that is under him, you should begin to do some research because some of the points that they drove home were life-changing, seriously. Some of the points might hurt the feelings of “religious” people or if you sit to high on your pew but they are factual and very enlightening. So here is what I took from this week and amazingly enough (because that’s how God rolls), some of the points kind of flowed into the last part of Rock’n Roll Rehab at OneLife Church here in Knoxville. So, in true Perry Noble style, here is what I took from both.

  • You want to learn a lot about somebody, spend 6 hours in a car with them. Love our new roadbuddies Delinda & Lana!
  • We’ve got to learn to jump as a church. If we don’t, the next generation will. We have to willing to stretch out of our boxes to reach the upcoming generations and “embrace” the culture but not become it.
  • God will bring us to a place in our lives where we become desperate for him because that is what He desires.
  • Church Folk, this one stings: We want people “enjoy” the service each and every Sunday rather than have their lives shaken by God and changed… have you ever said, “I hope you enjoy the service today!”
  • Missional is just a new buzz term. If you are truly missional, then you shouldn’t have to tell anyone.
  • If you can fully explain what is going on in your church then God probably isn’t involved.
  • We are dealing with the most skeptical/jaded generation to ever come through “church”.
  • You, as a church leader or volunteer, are working for Jesus but you are working to fulfill your Sr. Pastor’s vision… NOT YOUR OWN!
  • If you can not support the Pastor, GET OFF THE TEAM!
  • Pastor(s), be a man worth rallying around. In Acts 14, they rallied around Paul because of the man not the position.
  • If you don’t have a healthy Sr. Pastor, you don’t have a healthy church.
  • When Satan wants to stop a movement, he ALWAYS comes after the leader!
  • Surround yourself with people that: Love Jesus, Love Church, Love You
  • If we quit worrying about nonbeliever organizations like Disney & Ford, and focus on our own ministry as a church then we might have a revival
  • Pastor(s), people can believe in you all they want to but they will still go to Hell. It’s only about Jesus. The woman at the well was one of the most effective stories because she was a whore and not worth nothing. God has called us because of our position to glorify Him not ourselves.
  • Your wife will never be impressed with anything that you do. She has seen you naked. Date your wife!
  • Your wife does not care how many people follow you on twitter. Stop tweeting and start dating your wife!
  • Your marriage is the most important marriage in the church, period.
  • The Pastor’s wife married the pastor, not the congregation. She is specifically called for the ministry of the Pastor not to fill in if the Pastor is sick that day.
  • Date your wife, or someone else will. That one stings a little too…
  • Youth ministries should never have to do car washes or sell brownies to do something.
  • Two things to do with youth. Make sure they are funded in your budget. Make sure they are resourced.
  • My complete life-changing favorite point: Be completely unapologetic about ticking religious people off to reach the lost. You will run off some “church” people if you are doing ministry the way God intended us to do it.

I am humbled by your love for Christ and SO glad that my sweet Crissy has you as her husband. May God continue to shower His blessings on your family as rain waters the earth! My constant prayers are with you as you minister to those that need your words that Jesus plants in your heart.
